We're proud to say that we're a DVLA approved plate supplier. In order to produce road legal plates we have to abide by some rules which have been set by the DVLA.

When building your plate, you'll have the option for either 'Legal' or 'Show plate'. These are in place to help you the customer build the right plate for you.

Please take some time to read the information below.

 

What are the differences between the two? 

Legal plates are those which abide by the rules set by the DVLA and comply with all nesacacery requirements. From the material used to make the plates down to the text at the bottom. 

Show Plate on the other hand are designed for show purposes ONLY and are not meant to be used for road use at all. These plates are deemed illegal to use on the road and can result in fines or even prosecution.  

Legal Plates

If this option is selected when building your plate. We will add all the legal requirement's and abide by the rules set by the DVLA. This link will take you directly to the DVLA website and provide you will all the necessary information regarding number plates. 

In order to produce road legal plates, we'll require the following 1 of each of the following documents. Once the legal option has been selected you will have the option to upload the files, however if your unable to do so at the time of ordering please send the copies to support@regking.co.uk

The supplier will need to see original documents that:

  • prove your name and address
  • show you’re allowed to use the registration number

Identity documents

You can use the following to confirm your name and address:

  • driving licence
  • utility, Council Tax or rates bill from the last 6 months
  • bank or building society statement from the last 6 months
  • national identity card

The following will confirm your name only:

  • passport - does not have to be issued in the UK
  • bank or building society debit or credit card
  • police warrant card
  • armed forces identity card

Proving you can use the registration number

You must bring one of the following to show you’re allowed to display the registration number:

  • vehicle registration certificate (V5C or V5CNI)
  • green ‘new keeper’ slip from the V5C or V5CNI
  • certificate of entitlement (V750 or V750NI) to the number
  • retention document (V778)
  • a renewal reminder for vehicle tax or SORN (V11 or V11NI)
  • temporary registration certificate (V379 or V379NI)
  • a number plate authorisation certificate (V948) with an official stamp from the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA)
  • an electronic number plate authorisation certificate (eV948 or eV948/2)
  • a letter of authorisation from a fleet operator (including lease or hire company) quoting the document reference number from the registration certificate
  • if your fleet is in the new V5C on demand scheme (also called ‘V5C suppression’), a PDF of the vehicle’s details from the view vehicle record service
  • UK trailer registration certificate (VTRC)

 

Show Plates

As mentioned previously, Show plates are deemed illegal for road use and should ONLY be used for show purposes. We offer the option to build show plates however this is at your own risk, 

Once you select the show plate option, a message will appear to notify you that by proceeding, you do so at your own risk and we hold no responsibility.
